Before I considered moving to Florida, I inquired about the market for teachers and I was told by everyone from people at the airport to the car rental guy to the hotel manager that I would not have any trouble finding a teaching position. However, I have read a few times on this forum, that that may not be the case. I am a high school English teacher relocating to Pasco county the summer of 2008. What are my real prospects? Are they as good as I was originally told, or am I going to have a harsher reality of having a difficult time securing employment. I have a degree and am certified. Any thought would be appreciated.

The best piece of advice I can give you is to find out what the pay scale is and then research housing. Most first year teachers find they cannot afford an apartment or a house with their salary. I read about a girl that was hired in Broward county accepted the position and then looked at housing and found she could not afford to live there and had to decline the position and stay up north. Research everything before you make a decision. I teach in Sarasota County but have a husband, to go it alone on a first year teacher salary would be hard to do. Good luck.
