On the water in St. Pete will cost you well into the millions for a house.
In Kenneth City and Pinellas Park, you can probably find houses in the 200K to 300K range.

As I recall, Coquina Key is a very nice older established neighborhood. If it's the area that I'm thinking about, it has nice large trees and brick roads. I have no idea what the schools are like in that area, though.

the school system here is not that great. its called the "choice program" you get your children in where they seats avalible. doesnt mean they will sttend a school close to you or that they will attend a school of your choice..

In NE St. Petersburg the neighborhoods are extremely safe. I have never felt unsafe walking around on my block at night. Of course, a policeman lives right across the street. That's fairly common in St. Petersburg, having a cop who lives nearby. I live several blocks from the water, and at this point, I think you could get a pretty decent house for under $300,000, depending on how big you want it.
Then there is the Old Northeast section, just west of my neighborhood. That is a pretty nice area. In fact, I was just driving down the streets between 4th and 1st street N near 22nd avenue N, and was noticing how nice all of the homes were. Everything was well-kept, it looked like a very safe neighborhood. And the homes were large, and not as cookie-cutter as on the island neighborhoods. Also they were only about 8 blocks from the water, and not too far from downtown.
I don't know a whole lot about the school system, other than I'm glad I didn't go through it .

Sunshine Baby,
Thanks for your help, if you don't mind me asking what neighborhood do you live in? I know the school system is not that great, I am a teacher so I hope to accept a job in one of the better schools so my son can attend the one I work in, or he will go to private school.
