I may have an opportunity for a company transfer to Tampa. I'm in S. Florida now so the general Florida weather/lifestyle/affordabilty index/education system is no shock (it was when we first moved here from DC but we have adjusted our expectations-for now). My work would be on Channelside drive (near the port I hear). What areas do you recommend for family friendly, good schools, safe, etc.? Also, is there anything important you think we should know before making this decision (jobs are not a concern).

You didn't say how old the children are, but I would suggest that you research the schools and use that to base your decision on where to live.

Here's a link to the Hillsborough County School District website --> Hillsborough County Public Schools-Tampa Florida

Here's a link to the Florida Department of Education --> FLDOE Home

Here's a link to greatschools (parental feedback) --> GreatSchools.net

Here's a link to the Greater Tampa Education Guide --> America's Education Guide

The closest single family home neighborhoods from Channelside are going to be on Harbour Island, Davis Island, Hyde Park, and South Tampa.

Hi--I guess it really depends on what you are looking for in terms of budget, length of commute, etc. Channelside is pretty much downtown and accessible to many communities there, including South Tampa, Brandon, and Carrollwood. all of these, and even Temple Terrace, have good schools in them (but you have to look--I don't know of any universally great areas) and resources. They're all within about a 15min commute, depending on where you are.

Give us some more details--maybe even a comparison are in S. FL???

I have some lots in South Tampa that I could work up a very nice lot/home package for you. I also have 2 one acre lots in the Dover area available as well. The county is building 2 new schools just a mile or so away from the Dover lots.

Go to westchase if you can stand the high taxes.
Stay away from town and country. Bad schools

I agree with the above posters. Stay away from TNC. It is getting more and more ghetto. I would try to stay in either Hyde Park/S Tampa if possible to stay close or try Brandon area. You should be happy with either choice. Dover is quite a drive for those acre lots. If you need financial questions answered or want a better idea with some price ranges, Good luck with your move.
