Default Relocating from LA to Tampa/Oldsmar?

I am considering a move from Los Angeles to a nice 'lookin' community in Oldsmar...
My wife, a native Angelino is very skeptical.
Though it's clear that real estate prices are much cheaper, and the job has enormous potential, she's unwilling to budge..

Is there anyone who can convince her?

Is this area THAT good?

We have a 4 year old son...

Appreciate the feedback..

what is important ot her, and what price range you looking to live in? I belong to East Lake Country Club, and the neighborhood around the club is rather nice. I also live up in Trinity, which is a great area to live also.

Home prices are not that important...seems like it's very reasonable there..
But is it a good area to raise children?
How about schools...?
She is a teacher and would like to find work and will have a hard time leaving her tenured status.

Are you saying you have a good job offer here? If so, that is good, however your wife may have a hard time - the economy here is not good, and teachers are low-paid and losing jobs. If she has a good job where she is, that will make it that much harder to convince her.

I don't live in or near Oldsmar to give you specifics on the area other than to say it will be one heckuva change from LA. More of a rural feel than a city feel. Don't know if that will be a plus or a minus for you.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, Bakin, but it's probably not the best of times. The education budgets have been reduced considerably just this year. And there is a pending amendment that proposes to remove the school funding from real estate taxes and replace it with an increase in sales tax, aka tax swap (it's difficult to explain). In short, there is a lot of uncertainty in Florida's education funding at this time.

Do an internet search for Florida Amendment 5 to read more. Here's a link to the latest article from the Business Journal ---> Amendment 5 goes to Florida Supreme Court - Orlando Business Journal:

Oldsmar has a lot of nice places to live , with different price ranges, something for everyone I would say.
However, like others mention here it is a difficult time to get a job in teaching here, due to funds. Probably in a private school might be a better place.
If your wife is reluctant to leave LA, the only thing I can say is that I would rather raise my children in a place like Oldsmar, than in LA.
But it all depends on her priorities .

interesting...
sounds miserable regarding the school situation..
I wonder how one would find a job teaching at a private school...
