I agree. Spring Hill populace is mostly transplants from the North.

Port Richey is more locals and southerners. Less diverse and more single cultured. Who are we to say its right, wrong or indifferent?

People complain about people bashing the area and they are still living here.....has anyone thought about the fact that some of us are stuck? Some of us dont have family they can borrow money off of, some of us do not make 100k a year, some of us barely make it pay check to pay check and are making a pittance an hour so moving is not an option......I am taking my tax refund and moving as soon as we decide where we want to go......for now we are stuck.........some of us had no choice but to move here......and as far as NPR compared to SH......SH is starting to get over developed too....take County Line Road.....I travel it every day and its in the process of being expanded...I remember when I would drive up it and there were trees lining the street....I remember on Little Road by Ridge it was a lot of trees, now its a Home Depot....I remember Little heading north towards NY avenue, a plot full of trees, now a plot of houses....development is wonderful and all, but, I cant stand the sentiment of "leave no stone unturned"....it makes me sick how much development is going on.....and I have talked to ppl from Hernando and Pasco for years on the phones (its my job) and I can sit here and say, it doesnt matter which county, both of them have some of the rudest people I've ever encountered, amongst the other issues I have with them.......like Ive said before, nowhere up north will you see someone with a bumper sticker that says "redneck go home", but you bet your sweet a$$ you will see stickers down here with "yankee go home".......what happened to "good old fashioned southern hospitality"?........A friend of mine thought I was exaggerating about how things were down here, and to this day she will still say to me "I thought you were exaggerating, I cant believe how it is down there"......I call it like I see it and I try to give people a realistic view of things....negative? yes it is a negative view of things, but considering how much Ive seen and been through I can sit and say I am not making things up and am telling people like it is. FL just isnt for me, it may be paradise for some, but, for me it isnt. To those out there that like it down here, all the power to you.

Wow. Those are some cold snowy places. Job market in Upstate NY has been dead in the water for years. I don't know what you do for a living, but if you are looking at those places surely you know there is work in your field.

Work of 7 people? Heroric. The Island as in Long Island? Where taxes are a month what I pay in a year?

Emm. Stuck. Rough. When you go to where you decide what do you expect to find different? Would there be an abundance of difference to where you could be in a more mobile position in the future? If you make a "pittance an hour" have you thought about a career change into something more well paying? SH STARTING to get developed? It was developed at its inception. Still many lots unbuilt and lots of areas where there are blocks of lots undeveloped. It's about time they widened County Line Road between Pasco/Hernando. Its a busy roadway.

The reason for expansion of housing and development of wooded areas is simple. More people keep coming to live in Florida. There was a slight decline in new residents last year I think, maybe the year before, but it is picking up again. As the economy improves people become more mobile again. Florida, with all its "shortcomings' is still a place people want to live. Florida did not cause the construction boom and its decline, Florida did not create the unemployment, Florida did not create the overcrowding in urban areas. People caused it.

As far as rude people, you get back what you give. You give off an attitude of hate and disgust you are going to get hate and disgust right back at ya! Misery loves company.

The most prevalant anti north bumpber sticker I've seen here is "We don't care how you do it up north" which is a very true statement. The bumper stickers used to be more creative. "We are all not on vacation, NOW DRIVE" was a popular one in Orlando.

Yes, it is a matter of personal opinion. I just dont see how or why people make a huge change in their lives and when it sours on them they blame the place they live and the people who live there. That's insane.
the poor planners and soured dreams are not the majority of the population.

Let me know how you make out in Upstate NY, MT, CO, ND, etc

Yes the island as in Long Island....Dont know what property taxes are up there, all my years up there I was only a renter and never did own a house, so I cant say what it was....It would depend on the county.....

I currently am a switchboard operator and I have worked at answering services and have done data entry so I do have a few options, my husband is the same like me he has done a variety of things too, so at least we are not limited to one kind of job. I dont think I will mind the snow....I actually miss it. Never thought I would say that lol.....I worked my a$$ off at the answering service it was the first job I got down here and I worked there for a while, a lot of ppl came and went in that place, and I worked with lazy people......I work with some lazy people now....they cant even file their own paper work away, they leave it sitting on the table in the hopes someone else will do it.....hell they wont even clean the microwave after they make a mess in it.......I know that a clean microwave is not work related, but it is still sheer laziness....

Basically, if my in laws had been in Zimbabwe I wouldve landed there....it was wherever they were.....so it wasnt a choice.....Im not saying that FL is at fault for the over development, of course its the loads of ppl that are flocking to here....but, every time I turn around there is another patch of trees torn down in the name of yet another strip mall........too much development....

I am hoping that I am going to find somewhat different when I get to where I am going....I want peace and quiet....as far as the rudeness goes, I am not rude to people........yes, if they are nasty to me u bet I am going to get nasty back.....Being in the phone industry u deal with a lot of people who get nasty with you, curse at you, and scream at you, just because they feel that they can....people do not need to be that way and yet they are.....jsut got called stupid and a dummy today for someone elses screw up...Nice huh?....I get offended when I see the "yankee go home" type stickers....just because it is the norm to have those kinds of stickers down here, it doesnt make it right.....

Other people out there that bash FL and they do have options open to them shouldnt complain, just admit u goofed and move on.....
Career change would be a wonderful thing...sick of the phone thing....school is not an option at this point, no time no money........I do the phone jobs because its easy for me to get the job....Ive got the years of experience and I am damn good at what I do.....

County Line Road need to be widened all the way to at least Mariner, but, the construction ends way before that......not sure if there are plans to go further, but, with all the businesses that are down that way, there isnt much room for expansion.....it is still going to get hairy when it merges back into one lane with all that traffic......Ive tried Shady Hills, and at 11:30p its not a fun road to be driving on.....I dont feel comfortable on it......anyways, I am straying from the topic.......
I am looking for somewhere where it is less developed and a little more spread out with the population.....more or less why we are looking into the states we are looking into.....Pasco is going down more and more every day.....I have watched it decline in the past 7 years.....I tried to like it down here....I wanted to like it down here.....was sort of excited when I knew we were coming down here.....I thought it was going to be our fresh start....I gave it a shot......I am disappointed....I guess that is the best way to put it....I also cant deal with the threat of the hurricanes, dont think the nerves can handle any more.....

FL just wasnt for me. Everyone is different. For some people it works. I hope that things improve down here, otherwise if things do not pick up, there are going to be more and more people miserable and leaving........that wont be good for the economy or the morale of the ppl that are still here......

I do understand your position. It is different in FL, always has been.
But it is also different in Mobile Alabama and the surrounding areas,
Toledo, Ohio and the surrounding areas, etc etc. etc. However, if you're out in Montana somewhere and you get a bunch of snow and you're stuck in the house for a long winter, nah. Too depressing. Do you think that living rually is going to erase the closeness of necessities such as supermarkets, banks, post office, etc.? The more rural you go, the more "on your own" you have to become. I have a sister doing that up in Maine. They live very self sufficiently. It's worked for them for 30 years.
They wouldn't live in FL if it was free. It's not their style.

Hurricanes are not that frequent. If you are not prepared for them they can leave you devastated, but so can an earthquake, landslide, mudslide, tornado, flooding rivers, broken levees, any other natural disaster you can think of. I've seen, over the years, a lot more on the news about disasters in other places in America other than FL.

Oh, let's not even get into blizzards. I'd take a hurricane over a blizzard any day.

The crime is TERRIBLE along with the schools and the people who are on drugs. Not just teens but adults as well have fallen victim of pills and meth. The traffic is awful. I've be nearly hit every time I leave my house. If you want to be near New Port Richey or Port Richey I would go to TRINITY. Very nice area. But, honestly. Florida at all is a terrible idea. I've lived here my whole life but a little over two years and My husband and I are planning to move by the end of the year.
