Need information about apollo beach
We are thinking about buying a house in Apollo Beach because some friend bought there at a good price. However I don't know the area. does anybody know the history of this town or if there is anything fishy going on with their houses and Real Estate.
Thank you,

Apollo Beach is a nice area. The market is good for buying at the moment so I wouldn't worry about it. My manager lives in Apollo Beach and loves it.

There are a few nice looking subdivisions there (Mira Laga for one).
But everytime I go to Apollo Beach (usually to golf), I think that the entire area must be in a flood zone and I'd hate to live there if there ever was a bad storm/hurricane hitting the area.
And of course, if you don't mind looking at this in the northern skyline -
(PS - that's not me in the picture).

the smokestacks are incredibly disturbing....apollo beach is an odd place. the real estate bust has really affected apollo, there are many half built or built yet empty overpriced condos off apollo beach blvd...huge mix of housing options in there but the area really needs to evolve more.....its also sandwiched between ruskin and gibsonton which is not ideal.

Hey... the real estate bust has effected all of Florida and the rest of this nation. W/ref to the smoke stacks.... yes one can see them from Apollo Beach, but you do not need to live right beside them. Mira Bay is a very nice community as well, Ruskin has nice properties, and is growing. Easy access to the interstate. Plans for a mall in Apollo Beach, there are grocery shops, banks, restaurants, gas stations etc. Not a bad place to live.

Any worries about Apollo Beach being in the flood zone and the insurance prices with that?

I'm in Apollo and its not all bad. The decline of the housing market has certainly stymied its growth. I for one am okay with that. If your looking for quaint and quiet it may be just up your alley. I've learned its 20 minutes from anywhere, 20 minutes to Brandon, 20 minutes to Ybor, 20 minutes to downtown Tampa. The effect of the smoke stacks is greatly exaggerated and most communities are miles away.
As for insurance, most areas will require that you carry flood and for my 2,000 sq/ft+ home on a lakefront lot I'm paying less than $1,200 a year. This includes flood..

Apollo Beach doesn't really have distinctive borders. You really don't know you there until you hit subdivisions. AB doesn't have any particular distinctive characterisitics - no town or city limits, really.
