Missing Renters? what to do?
I have a small 600sq house in the back of my property that I rent out in Largo, I have not seen or heard from the person I rent it to since Oct-14, he still owes some money from October and has not paid Nov rent yet either, and a long with the power bill is 3 months in the back come to find out. The mail box is full, I have left notices on the doors and they are still there and have not moved. Since I can see the house from my house I have seen nothing.
I’m about to enter the house under Section 83.53(2), F.S.. From what I can see the house is full, the car has not moved from its spot in over a month and I find all this strange, if something happened to him his family would have contacted me, I would call his family but lost all their numbers when my phone died last month.
What can I do, can I start removing everything from the house, when is it classified as being abandon, and what about the car???? Also can I sale the stuff to make up back rent, cleaning, and repairs???

It sounds really strange since he left his car and belongings there. Have you considered calling the police and telling them your story? I'd let them enter and check things out.

That happened to me once and it turned out the guy was in jail - I would defintely check and see if this is the case. At any rate, I agree you should call the authorities to check it out and go from there.
I will never be a landord again, not under any circumstances - worst 4 years of my life when I was managing some of my own rentals.

Yes, please do call the police and report the situation. If something has happened to him and no one knows, at least the police can start an investigation. Also, if there has been any type of crime, you certainly don't want to go mess with belongings. Just stay put and talk with the police. They will advise you further.

I agree with the other posters. Have the police check out the house, then you can proceed according to the Florida Statutes.

I would call Largo PD and have them make a visit, and then call the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office and see if they have him at the jail there.
