Yes! I used to live in that very neighborhood. It's got a different vibe than Old Northeast but I thought it was really safe and lived there a year. The only trouble I had was with a neighbor on my property who was basically insane and was violent, but she's been kicked out...
I wouldn't necessarily sit in Lassing Park at night, either, but I would hesitate to do that in any of the parrks.
Old SE is a sleepy neighborhood, the people who live there have so much pride in it - it's a really great place. I felt perfectly safe as a single woman.
