Hello-
We might going to be moving to the lakeland area soon but I was wondering if there are any other nice areas between lakeland and tampa where you can get a nice decent home for under 200K. Is plant city ok? we are in our early 50's, white, kids not living with us and both work. We are looking to get a pool home so that lessens our choices. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Walden Lakes at Plant City is very nice. Not sure if you can find a pool home at that price, though.

Look on realtor.com. There are several really nice houses in your price range and a few of them have pools. I live in Valrico but I always say that if I move and have to stay in the area I would move to Plant City. Good luck!

Are you looking to be in a subdivision or on a larger piece of land? Walden lake on the East side of Alexander is still nice and you can probably find something in your price range. ( Waldon Lake on the west side of Alexander has the golf course and will be a bit more.) Remember, you can put a pool in for 15k so don't rule a place out if it doesn't have one. I would avoid the areas around 92 on the west side of town. High migrant population and Crime. You just have to look at the different areas.

I have parents who live in Plant city Walden Lake and it is always great to visit. It is an amazing community with everything within 5 miles of it, very good medical, restaurants(Kazbor's Grille our favorite), shopping. Many homes for sale here.

Riverview/Brandon/Valrico.
Nice homes range from $120,000+ (this includes short sales and forclosures as well).
There are a lot of new homes in this area, it's about 30 mins. from Plant City and about 45 mins. to Lakeland. The upside to living here, there is more to do here than both Plant City and Lakeland combined, plus not far from Tampa.

I have been looking along the lines of short sales and forclosures. Yes they may be a little on the time consuming time, but in the end they are worth it. I have seen many homes listed at $100,000 and up. Then again it's up to the bank as to whether or not they accept it. I have found a few homes in Riverview that were about 2200 sf and 3-4 br. 2-3 ba. 2-3 car garages some with lofts-bank approved at $135,000. I fell in love with one house, it was so spacious and gorgeous, but based on $135,000 mortgage and HOA as well as home owners insurance, it was out of our price range....I was heartbroken. We found 3 really nice corner units (townhomes) that are almost 2000sf-we put in offers on those instead.

I've played a lot of golf at Walden Lakes when visiting the area. Always thought that would be the place I'd settle down at -

Thanks for the info.

I bet you that the houses in Plant City are going for around the same price...
