#1 Have you been to either?

#2 What's your budget?

My girlfriend built a house in Apollo Beach on Tampa Bay about 10 years ago when bayfront was $200K.....If you get out there, it's beautiful gated community on the water....and normal neighborhoods (or used to be) around it.....close to Brandon & the big town center mall....

Ruskin....still kinda out in the boonies....

Crime is almost non existent in Apollo Beach. The bad elements of Riverview haven't quite extended that far yet.
As for country, yes, it is still country. The main reason being the pollution from Big Bend & the many power lines running through the "country". And that god awful smell from the tomatoes rotting behind the tomatoe industries.
We own property in Ruskin, but good ol' Hillsborough County has forced us not to build there. Taxes are $20,000 a year and rising. Even if we built & filed homestead right now, we would work the rest of our lives to pay the taxes.
Crime in Ruskin is not too bad. We have never had a problem with our property there at all. You are quite a ways away from Brandon and that is where you find your larger stores.

That area is growing like crazy, But taxes are more reasonable in other areas,
Expect a tax bill of 6000 for a 200 thousand home in Hillsborough County, and even more for Manatee, Sarasota counties. I love the area, but I was forced to move because I wanted a new home and more for my money, cheaper taxes and ho insurance. Unfortunately lots of people are moving out of Hillsborough, now Pasco and Hernando is getting bad.
