Default Things to do in Lakeland?

Me and my boyfriend are going to Lakeland tomorrow for a rodeo. We live in Clearwater, never been to Lakeland. Are there any interested places to go in Lakeland, maybe walk around outside with shops, or any nice malls? Also, does anyone know of any good restaraunts? Thanks

Lakeland really isn't a happening place but you could check out :

-Hollis Gardens and Lake Mirror Park (free parking on Orange street at the Magnolia building)

-the open air Lakeside Village Mall in South Lakeland

-the swans at Lake Morton (Lake Morton Drive)

-the downtown area (parking map)

-the Lakeland Square Mall in North Lakeland.

-Lake Parker Park in North Lakeland

If you are interested in architecture, Florida Southern College is right on Lake Hollingsworth south of downtown - it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and is the largest collection of his buildings in one place in the world. The drive around the lake is very nice. And Lakeland Yankee has mentioned some other nice spots around. Downtown is quaint and cute, and I love the swan sanctuary on Lake Morton.

The Lakeside Village open-air mall just southwest of town is also a nice place to go and has a beautiful movie theater and many restaurants.

Have fun!

Hit the gun show at the civic center. It's a great event!

Stay away from the Lakeland Square Mall. It's full of gang banger's and low-life's for the most part. Stick to the Lakeside Village on the south side.

I'm probably too late, but I'd also recommend a side trip to Lake Alfred to visit "The Barn, The Stable, and the Back Porch Tea Room." Directions and hours in link --> The Barn Antiques - Welcome to The Barn!
