On the other hand, no one has that home-town mentality
Up until recently Tampa was a very small city. Most native Tampa residents are now 3rd and 4th generation, especially the Cubans and Italians. Very few have left. They have just been greatly outnumbered by transplants!

1 or 2 out of 2.5 million. Well this college-educated professional must be one of the only two. The other one is my wife. That's it! Oh wait what about my kids. Well, they must be rednecks then. Thank you for pointing that out or I would have never known.
BTW Artsy- Tampa Bay is a body of water. No one lives there, so I don't know who these aquatic rednecks are you are referring to.

S FL (think: Boca Raton) is filled with whiny and cranky NY'ers but I wouldnt say that S FL is boring. My point being, I dont see the correlation between your fear of rednecks and a boring town that comes along with it.

Your dead wrong let me tell you.
Places full of rednecks and old people are boring ass areas and reasonably so. I look at interests, I look at things to do and those 2 groups do not bring it. Gated communities, Im against that way of life as they can bring the 2 groups together along with the gangbangers.
I dont mind being in a southern style city if theres THINGS TO DO.
All I am saying is, if your gonna have these people, have other ****.
Tampa to me is the ideal place as well as St Pete since ALL live there and not just CERTAIN ones only. You gotta get a grip ms cracker.

Other than that....... they are mixed in EVERYWHERE ELSE.
In some areas....... they are the majority.
Let's not forget, the Tampa Bay area is located on the WEST COAST of Florida......
So let's not pretend it is some "international metropolitan area"..........
By the way, "rednecks" can have jobs, shiny expensive trucks, new SUV's, ect........... that doesn't change WHO THEY ARE.
Maybe that's why people don't "SEE THEM"- they are looking for a guy sitting on the front porch playing the banjo, sipping apple sauce through a straw........

i see red necks here and there, yet i don't see a problem. if you don't want to hang out with them, don't. most people here are not red necks, most seem to be from Ohio, NY and Michigan. deff. a melting pot of people.

I live in a very nice area of Tampa, but face it Tampa is in the south and there are a lot of good ole boys in the area. Tampa does have the world's largest Confederate Flag flying at I-4 and I-75. I live in a area where the homes cost between $350,00 to $700,000 and I have 8 Confederate Flags flying in my subdivision. I moved down here from the north and I just accept their culture. Who am I to move down to Florida and try and change what these people believe???? This is why the true Floridians hate yankees because we come down and try and tell them how to live........ Just remember central Tampa is a great diverse area however, if you go into Pasco county or Hernando County you will see good ole boys....... These good ole boys are good people....... I will say if you bring your northern attitude down here with you than you will not be accepted....... Anyone who has lived in Florida for more than a year will agree with me ( unless you move to Miami).

A majority of people are from other parts and not really southerners. This has pros and cons. On one hand, Tampa is very tolerant - there is not much racial tension and it's very integrated and diverse. On the other hand, no one has that home-town mentality. Most people are either on vacation or passing through or just moved here - they can act a fool and no one is going to tell their mama.
|
SERIOUSLY somebody is thinking right.
tampa is one of the most tolerant places in america.
there is no racial tension here unlike some other states
like the midwest yes I'm talking about wisconsin.
in Milwaukee there is alot of racial tension between African americans and well the white people. Thats because there is kinda a lack of them outside the metro area.
