Default Thonotosassa. Good place to stay for a month?

Hi guys,

I've developed a splitting headache from searching vrbo.com for vacation rentals for the month of March. The site is so slow and buggy and everything decent seems rented at this point. I did however come across a nice looking place in Thonotosassa, FL, but I have no idea what's going on in this town.

I understand it's very rural, which isn't necessarily my thing, but I don't think that will be a probem for a 1 month stay. I'm basically interested in comments about the suitability of this area for a one month visit. Is this a place where I'll have to bring my shotgun? I'll have my own car so getting around isn't a problem. Mapquest shows about 20mins to downtown Tampa and an hour to Clearwater.

I guess the purpose of my trip is to get a feel for the Tampa area(jobs, area I'd want to live, people...etc). I need to make a decision ASAP though. The map images are the exact area in question.

I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks

You can do a search on Thonotosassa using 'search this forum' to see posts where Thonotosassa.

It is out in the country not really close to anything a touristy.

I think Thonotosassa is a horrible vacation rental place. There is nothing there, it's country.

Have you tried Craigslist? I agree with the pp that Thonotosassa would be a strange choice... unless you really wanted to be central to both Tampa and Orlando.

Even at that, being in Tampa or Brandon would be just as close, if not closer than being out there. Thonotosassa is too far out in the boonies...

I have to agree with everyone - why Thonotosassa? It's just a little rural burg and quite a haul to downtown Tampa.

Ok, thanks guys. This was really the last option for March though. Everything close to Tampa or near the Gulf seems to be rented or dumpy looking if not. It looks like I have to wait until April, but I'm just so sick of the cold weather.

The responses here remind me of Roy Mercer when he calls the International tours of Bixby wanting to take a vacation there and the lady keeps telling him there is nothing but sod farms and a kleenex factory there

Have you tried calling a local realtor here in Tampa? Maybe they would know of a good vacation rental in the area...

I wouldn't go there for a month or even a week. It is known for drugs. Not even that pretty an area. Find another place! You can also try cyberrentals.com
