Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater
Hello...
We're visiting Tampa in May and wondering where should I stay? We prefer the urban setting over the small town setting and for this reason, i was thinking downtownTampa Bay. We don't care as long as there is a beach near. Does Tampa sound good in May? what are the temps like? Can you recommend a good fun area to stay in? Thanks in advance

What kind of budget/room rate are looking at?
Temps in May will be warm, highs around mid to high 80's and comfortable nights in the mid to high 60's. Humidity's not too bad then though as it's usually a very dry month here. Water temps in the Gulf will be very nice, like bath water.

I've looked at the don cesar and tradewinds and you know what, I don't like them....They are still living in the 70's, what a joke! just because you're on the beach, they shouldn't give you 4 stars especially when they clearly don't even have 3 star rooms! I'd rather stay in modern hotel and drive to the beach and come back to modern hotel.

Have you tried Vacation Rentals by Owner? You may be able to find a nice rental that is more economical than a traditional hotel.

Since you like urban, good and fun, have you looked at Ybor City, next to downtown Tampa. Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn. You have all of Ybor(restaurants, bars, nightclubs, movies, theater, museum, shops, natl historic district), and then a streetcar ride to Channelside and downtown Tampa. It would be about 35 min to Clearwater Beach or St Pete Beach/Fort DeSoto Park.
The Wingate is way out in the Burbs, the Hyatt Place is in the Westshore Business District, just outside the airport, and less than a mile from International Plaza/Bay Street, and Westshore Plaza..about 30 min to Clearwater Beach And about 5 miles from downtown Tampa/Ybor City
Another Urban choice is downtown St. Pete, about 15 min to the beaches.
