My '01 GTI is currently in route from Hawaii to St. Pete so I am also looking for a good VW mechanic.

A google search came up with a few folks saying FixxTuning.com is a good shop. I will keep googling though, usually car enthusiast forums are pretty accurate on this sort of thing.

Please post back if you come up with any other shops.

I could use one on the Tampa side as well, I'm tired of the antics at the dealer on Kennedy.

Did you end up taking your car to Fixx? How did it go?

I did, seems like they did a great job with it, and were very reasonable. they even did a quick little repair to the key fob. I would definitely take it back there.

If you are feeling a little adventurous, try Craigslist. I have had good luck with mechanics from that site.

I'm at home waiting for a diesel mechanic right now. I refuse to go to a shop, because those guys don't let me watch them work. And I find they work at half the price of some of those rip-off con men
