Default Commute times to MLK/I-75 from Pinellas

I'm curious about commute times from various cities in Pinellas to the Citibank Center at MLK and I-75.

I am starting a new job in a a place near the Citibank Center, and my wife just took a dream job offer in South Pinellas (Gulfport area). I will be the one taking the longer drive (we aren't interested in living close to my workplace for various reasons).

Any idea how long it takes to get from...
Gulfport to MLK/I-75?
Safety Harbor to MLK/I-75?
North St. Pete/Gandy area to MLK/I-75?

We're very familiar with Safety Harbor, which is why it is an option despite being a bit far for both of us. We like the parts of Gulfport we saw. We know there are also not-so-nice parts. We're basically just looking for a place that is safe (for us and our little guy) and somewhat close to 275.

Any advice is helpful!

YOu better test drive it in rush hour traffic times. You will change your mind.
Safety harbor is alittle to far to drive to brandon each day towork.

Default Looonnnnggggg drive!

I understand the chivalry that goes along with making that commute, but you are looking at probably an hour each way easily. The only middle ground I could think of would be living somewhere near the Gandy bridge (and near the Crosstown entrance). You could take the crosstown all the way across. The 2x tolls would be rough, but I-4/275 from the eastern side of Ybor to the Vets Expressway/Memorial is horrible.

Unlike the homers pumping up their own neighborhoods on these boards, I don't live anywhere near where I recommended. However, I think that is probably the best "middle ground" you'll find.

Good luck!!

I will agree with everyone that you are looking at long drive, especially from Gulfport. However if you are dead set on making that drive then it could be worse. The Gateway area (gandy blvd and 4th) is an easy commute because you are right next to the interstate but in terms of family areas I would say it's a younger more young prof age. It's very safe and I have never felt uncomfortable in any part but it's mostly condos and few good neighborhoods. Another option would downtown St. Pete in the Old Northeast. Downtown St. Pete (above Central) is a beautiful and wonderful place to live. The Old Northeast is cobblestone streets with beautiful oaks hanging over and walking distance to a beautiful park and the bay. The interstate is close for both of you and you really only adding 10-15mins to your ride. The other option would be Westchase, Carollwood area near the Airport in Tampa. Farther for her and prob some traffic getting to 275 but nice family towns. Hope this helps! Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.

It isn't just chivalry, my wife will be taking our toddler to work with her. I don't want him to be stuck in a car every morning for 45 minutes.

Old Northeast St. Pete sounds like what we're looking for, actually. So, north of central is a good place to be? Safe?

I'll be sure to test drive the routes prior to choosing a place, that is a great recommendation.
