My wife has been looking at various positions in nursing in the Tampa area and we have been trying to find some type of pay scale. She is a newer nurse....and will be taking an ICU position from one of two hospitals...but no one has really stated exactly what the pay scale is...All of the hospitals in the area say they have very competitive pay...but no one will give us any figures until we arrive in the area...Can someone please give us a ballpark figure of the hourly rate....Thanks to everyone in advance!!!!!

I find it weird that they have offered her positions without discussing pay?!?!?! We are in the middle of transition from NC back to FL. My wife is a recent grad and interviewed over the phone and pay was discussed at the time they "officially" gave her a job offer.

If she has been officially offered a position she should talk to the recruiter and ask what the pay scale is. There is no harm in doing that.

If she hasn't officially been offered a position and just has interviews set up then that is a different scenario. Depending on her experience level and whether she works days or nights can influence her pay by many dollars. I may be able to make a guess if I knew those two things...

Pay is tied to experience and specialties. Is she a certified RN in Intensive Care? Certification generally commands greater pay. Some hospitals are known to pay better than others, I advise people to always look past the pay and look deeply into the benefits. Some places may pay less, but have outstanding benefits. I know some veteran(15+ years) certified ICU RN's who work for a large Tampa facilities and they say the out of school rate is in the mid $20's per hour. Veterans top out in the mid $30's per hour.
