Can anybody recommend a good Portuguese resturant? Somewhere not that far from Lakeland...

Boizao is supposed to be Portuguese, but you'll have to be the judge. It's located south of Tampa International Airport on Boyscout Blvd. I think they may have one in Orlando, too. I've heard rave reviews, but my experiences there have been just mediocre. More here --> http://www.boizao.com/

Boizao is Brazillian. They speak a version of Portuguese and share some dishes, but it's not quite the same thing. It's good though!

I don't know of any local Portuguese restaurants, although I do know of a small Portuguese grocery in Palm Bay.

Boizao is the very high end for brazilian, there's also one with another name in Brandon, and another one in 49th st. in Pinellas Park.

Not anywhere close to Lakeland, but...

There's a little Portuguese eatery right by Hudson beach in Pasco county. I don't remember the name of it, but we've stopped in a couple of times and it's pretty good.

One of the maddening things about the St. Pete/Tampa area- no Portugese restaurants. There was a great Portugese bakery in Gulfport that recently closed (think the owner was really old). There used to be a Brazilian/Portugese restaurant in St. Pete, but it closed. Besides Brazilian is NOT Portugese food. Spanish tapas bars are closer to real Portugese food.

That's true! I am brazilian and I am moving with my husband to Tampa area. Besides the language (that's almost the same) we from Brazil have some different dishes form Portugal. Specially when going to south of Brazil we do have the Portuguese dishes with fishes but unlike Portugal we have a lot of different options of Steak House.

I think it's worth it to try at least once

If somebody needs some tips about Brazilian food I'll be happy to help.
