Gay Blades Roller Rink in St. Pete and Gay Way Roller Rink in Clearwater.
Edward White Hospital is now where Gay Blades used to be on 9th Ave. No., and a Salvation Army store is in the old Gay Way on Missouri Ave.

Neither had air conditioning. Gay Blades always played traditional skating music, except for one pop song, "Build Me Up, Buttercup". Wow, really radical!

Yeah, "Sealy's" sounds familiar. And there used to be a place that had "broasted" chicken somewhere around there too.
I can't remember exactly but it was on Florida Ave. on the east side of Florida ave. South of Sacred Heart Academy, under a huge canopy of oak trees. It was a fairly small buildingit had a huge root beer barrell in the center behind the counter that's all I remember. I was about 4 or 5 at the time mid 1950's I'm no longer in Tampa so I have no idea what is there now.

Remember the skating rink on Gandy at Manhattan in the 60's? I think it
was under a tent. A cute blonde monitor kept the guys hanging around.

There were a lot woods and palmettos back then, mostly undeveloped
areas, in the Southend. I remember one of the largest Eastern Diamondbacks I have ever seen crawling at the rear entrance to Britton Plaza. He just disappeared into the palmettos, warning everyone to stay away.

The area south of the Plaza was way overgrown and probably had 100's of rattlers. As dumbs kids, we used go in there a shoot BB and pellets guns.
Luckily, we nerver got snake bit. A few years later, two of us became
Marines and got sent to Vietnam. More bushes, different time and place.

Plant Class of '62

You can post a link or you can post some pictures as long as they belong to you and are not copyrighted.

I remember the area. The railroad tracks cut right thru there. I remember a guy robbed a store in the area and ran into those woods. Cops never found the guy. Plant '77

Curtis Hixson Hall downtown. I remember David Bowie played there and us kids rode our bike down there just to watch the freaks that showed up for the concert. My Dad and I used to go to the custom car shows there in the '70's. The World of Wheels.

Sandsabar on Sunset Beach. Or The Driftwood (it's the same building that the wretched Caddy's now occupies), man that was a dump. Good times.

Do you remember the Tanga Lounge on the causway? And the resturant that revolved in a circle on the top of Tampa Airport? I think it was called the Host Hotel and resturant. Also, Chief Charleys Resturant in Clearwater and The Matterhorn German Resturant on Bush Blv. and Big Boys resturant in Clearwater. And the 41st Squadern air force Resturant right near the Clearwater airport runway.
