Just wondering how and when Tampa decided to adopt a liking for pirate themes. Many aspects of the city's culture revolves around pirates. Examples being the many bars throughout the city with pirate decor, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and of course the Gaspirilla parade.

Was Tampa a hotspot for pirates back in the day?

Anyone else see that Pirates episode of South Park. My favorite part was when they were in somalia and got to the pirates hangout spot and Cartman said "These arnt pirates, there just a bunch of black people" Not being Racist or trying to offend anyone, but that was funny.
