We are looking for a safe neighborhood. We entered various areas in Orlando and they look very violent, what areas of Tampa are also high on criminality so that we can not look for housing there?

I would say be wary of Ybor City, then north of there and east of I-275. The areas are improving but not up to par as of yet.

Here is a good map showing the levels of crime in Tampa based on Zip code:

City of Tampa All Crimes for March 2009

Also, this link allows you to search by address and see more specific information about what crimes are occurring in the area:

Tampa Crime Map - Showing Crime in Tampa, FL - Crime Statistics - Crime Alerts - Crime Stops Here

I hope that helps!

I would say East of I-275 from I-4 north to Fletcher Ave is not the most desirable areas. And also just West of the Univ of South Florida, from the campus to I-275 between Fowler and Fletcher Ave areas...although, one thing I have noticed lately, is that alot of the violent crime(murders, rapes, babys being thrown from cars---so sad, etc.), are occurring between people that know each other(family/aquaintances).....

I hope you don't know them..., I don't know any of them but in the area of Fowler and Fletcher there have been shootings, and if you look around during the day than you know you don't want to be there when it get's dark.
During the day to get gorceries or go shopping at the mall there is okay but I wouldn't be there unless I have to buy something!

Of course nutcases do live any where, but "normal" people out number them many times over.
