USF St. Pete
My son is going to USF St. Pete in the Fall. I'd like to hear anything about the school or the area. Safe? Things to do? He will be in the residence hall. We'd love to see some pics of the area! Thanks!

I used to live just a few blocks away from that campus. The area directly to the north is VERY nice. To the south, not so much. There should be plenty to do, since your son will essentially be living right in downtown St Pete. The park that's right by the bay is host to one event or another just about every weekend. Last month it was the site of the Grand Prix. Janus Landing is right there, for some great concerts. There is a jazz festival each month. Generally speaking, that neighborhood has something for everybody.

Beautiful waterfront campus in a good area, and close to everything downtown St. Petersburg. Most of St. Pete's medical complexes are in the area, and walking distance to LOTS of cultural venues(music, art, museums, parks, festivals, restaurants, nightlife, Baseball, boating).

I did too, and I absolutely loved it! It is probably my favorite experience living in FL thus far (almost 7 years). I did not live there, however, but the immediate surrounding area always felt safe to me. I had to go to the Tampa campus a few times and I did not enjoy it. I was happy to return to the little USF St. Pete.
(I attended a huge state U back home so I knew USF Tampa was going to be that way of course).

Yes I think he'll love it there. Downtown St. Pete is a jewel in my opinion- has the largest waterfront park system in the U.S. As someone else mentioned, I wouldn't recommend ever driving south of there- only north. There is no need to go south anyway.
