Default Florida Teacher Certification

Does anyone know how to become certified as a teacher in Florida. I have three university degrees but am not licensed to do anything in Florida career-wise.

Thinking about what to do with my nine years of post-high school education and it ocurred to me - why not become a teacher. The only problem is that I never took any education courses.

Are there any alternative programs in which you can start to teach while going through the certification process? As soon as I get a job, I will be able to move from NY to FL permanently. Husband and I bought a "retirement" home in Florida but I am too young to retire and we need at least one full-time income to make ends meet. Thanks.

The hiring process is done through individual districts. You will need to decide which districts you might want to work in, check their web sites for instructional job openings, and apply. Depending on your grade/subject it might be hard to find a job, and a lot of districts (Hillsborough County, for example) are not hiring Alternative Certification teachers this year because of budget cuts.Best of luck!

Hopefully you're not over-qualified. The more degrees = the more they have to pay you. I know for a fact that they've had to let go a bunch of high-paid teachers, who are being replaced by multiple new teachers.
