Advice on our move to Tampa from SFL (Campbell: spring break, to rent)

Hi, family and I will be moving to Tampa soon. Planning to find a TH or SFH to rent and then may be purchase. We're looking at several areas like Baycrest, Bay Pointe, Dana Shores, Rocky Point, etc... I think they are mostly 33615 zip code. I have heard good things about this area, but would like to get more feedback. Here are some concerns:

1. How bad is traffic on Hillborough Ave around 8:30 am ( from hillsb. ave towards palm harbor) and then back at around 5:30 pm or so?
Also how bad is it from hillsb. ave to armenia in the am and back in the pm?

2. Are these areas safe to live in?

Baycrest is an older development with some homes on a canal that leads to the bay. Pretty safe if you live 'inside' the area but getting in and out during rush hour can be bad. Homes were built in the 60s IIRC. It use to be one of 'THE' places to live. Dana Shores is near the Airport but homes are very nice with some airplane noise. Rocky Point on the Courtney Campbell is not bad.. Note.. rush hour traffic is always heavy.

Hillsborough to PH would not be too bad since you are going against most of the traffic. Hillsb to Armenia could be 30-40 min trip depending on where on Hills and Armenia.

I think they are all fairly safe. I know a couple of ppl who live in Dana Shores. They make good $$$ and it is tucked away off major roads.

BayCrest would be the only place I would suggest you check out closely. Some of the homes right off of Memorial look pretty tired.

I am from Palm coast florida, Would love to rent a house with canal, near the airport I have until sept 1 of this year, help any one?

i also looked at your area of interest. couple of houses on water were (probably still are) going pretty cheap. if sfl is south florida, i've recently relocated from there. weekdays, east of the airport, hillsborough moves like 441 any time of the year during rush hour or like us1 during tourist season rush hour. but during weekends the road's a breeze. not sure about west of airport as my investigation stopped on that area when i found property i preferred. i did however check out traffic patterns over by the beach (particularly st. pete bch and areas to its north) and i that was more like driving the strip during spring break circa 1980.
