They are both one of the fastest growing metros in the country. Tampa is a little bit cheaper in housing costs than Orlando is. Tampa isn't as touristy and it does have a shorter commute. They both have plenty of shopping and lots of sprawl. I heard about Orlampa, it's an area off of I-4 in Polk County where Tampa and Orlando are supposed to meet and become one big megaregion. Orlando and Tampa, instead of being 2 seperates should become one because no one can decide between the 2.

Having lived and worked in both, I'll never go back to Orlando.

Just saw today on the news that a new poll showed that Tampa and Miami were a couple of the top cities for angry road-rage. Orlando didn't even make the running with these cities.
But honestly, all of these "angry city / road-rage" polls are quite dumb. I just thought that it was funny about Tampa being one of the top road-rage cities in the nation, and Orlando wasn't. More likely I'd say both cities are tied, but the poll didn't say that.

Prichard mentioned that the people in Orlando vs. Tampa are different. My question is: how so?

I lived in Tampa for 9 years and the Orlando area for 5 and it's not even close for me, I dislike Tampa and almost everything about it. For some reason, I didn't dislike it nearly as much when I lived there but now...geez. I go back there to visit friends quite a bit and can't imagine how I lived there for so long. Orlando is not all touristy and no, Disney is not in Orlando. It depends on what you're looking for and yes the populations are different. It also does not take very long to get to the beaches from the Orlando area. The Tampa area does have some gorgeous beaches (St.Pete,Clearwater, Sarasota area) but the east coast has some great beaches as well and actual waves. Between USF and UCF,that's totally up to you because they have different strengths. Both cities have nice metro areas as well.

The weather in Tampa and Orlando is nearly identical. Too many highways in Orlando??? I thought that everyone was complaining that there weren't enough! Anyway, Tampa has three federal highways that I know of (I-4, I275, and I-75. Orlando only has one, I-4, and some toll highways
