I'll be moving to the area next month from out-of-state. Are there any good diners in the area that anyone can recommend? I'm originally from NY/NJ, so if you're familiar with that area you'll know what I'm looking for.

I personally haven't seen one yet! I know exactly what you're looking for........we went to one in Poughkeepsie and can't tell you how delicious everything was! so, I know exactly what you're talking about....

There is one in Jacksonville that I did a website for and seems to have really good food......I'll DM their name.....

I go to these restaurants all the time:

Tampa
Nicko's: Florida Avenue just north of MLK. It's an actual 50s prefabricated diner
Three Coins: Nebraska at Broad

St. Petersburg
Dave's: 9th Street North between 22nd and 30th Avenues North.

There's also a prefabricated diner on 34th Street South, but it houses a place called Shirley's Soul Food.

I was going to suggest those very ones. The Three Coins is like a time warp back into the 50's or something, and they have great food for cheap. We used to eat there all the time a few years ago when we had some rental property in the area.
