Tampa is a terrific place to live if you have a good job or you're retired and have enough money to live the lifestyle you desire. I'd definitely secure a job before making such a move, but I'm a very cautious person. I wish you well.

I felt the same way back in the 1980s. I was 27 years old and had never lived anywhere except a small town in East Tennessee. I got married and shortly after, my DH had a job opportunity in Tampa. I quit my job and we moved. It took me two years to acclimate to the weather. Fortunately, it only took me a couple of months to find a job. It's hard for me to believe that I've lived in Tampa now over 25 years. It was difficult at the time, but there are so many positive qualities about Tampa. Obviously the weather is good. The hot steamy summers that some people complain about are actually good for me (asthma). The landscape is green and colored with tropical flowers. I've never seen such awesome sunsets. Though Tampa is a relatively small city, there are lots of things to do for every interest. Whatever you decide, I hope the best for you.

If you are looking at Tampa General I would rent on Davis Island. Older apts but a lot of hospital personnel live there.

If you have enough money to get u to Tampa and to live for a couple of months until you get a job and a pay check.. you should be fine. Remember you don't get a paycheck always the first week.
