We are moving to Lakeland in March for a job transfer and after being there a couple times checking the areas out, I want to know from people first hand. Out of the 2 which apartment complexes are the best? Nice, Safe, Surrounding areas? Can anyone give me input... The Village at Lake Highlands and Audubon Oaks.

thank you! =)

Have lived in both, both have their issues. Not sure how much Audubon Oaks may have changed has been about 6 years since we lived there. Village at lake highland , lived there more recently. personally I think it is in a better area of town. It is a lot easier to get in and out of. The outdoor mall is a lot nicer on the southside of town. The maintenance at village is not the greatest. The tend to half do the job and then you have to have them come back out. We had issues one time with our air and it took them 3 times coming out to get it fixed. The walls are typical thin apartment walls. And, they tend to not do anything if you have a complaint. To me the apartments are nicer in Audubon, but Village is in a lot better area, out of the two I would go with Village at Lake Highlands. The office ladies are very nice, just lacking in maintenance and complaints. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions and I will try to answer them.

Don't know about the apartments. Try staying in South Lakeland. Zip code 33813. Better schools. Lots of houses to rent. Schools are all good.

These are on completely opposite sides of town. What part of town will you be working in?

Thank you all for the responses! My fiancé will be working off County Line Rd and I4 so either apartments are pretty much the same distance.. I like the inside of the Audubon Oaks a lot better than the Village at Lake Highlands but did notice the area near Village at Lake Highlands is definitely a lot nicer.. The other ones we were looking at is the Huntington at Sundance in Mulberry not sure if anyone knows about those as well.

Thank you for your help!

I live about 3 miles south of Village at Lake Highlands. It is a nice part of town. Sundance although technically may be in Mulberry like Wall Mart, it is still "south Lakeland". Cant tell you the specifics of the apartment complexes, just the areas.

Ok, thank you! So should probably stick with either the VALH or HAS... Seems like the much better area?

You might also want to check out The Landings at Long Lake. It is near a new neighborhood called Bridgewater which is an area that is expected to boom because of the new Polytechnic University and it's super close to I-4 so your commute to County Line would be pretty easy.

We actually did look at The Landings at Long Lake, seemed really nice but not much around the area, which now makes sense. Appreciate that! I'll keep those in mind again now.. My biggest question is people say "stay in south Lakeland" "stay in north Lakeland".... Why do some people prefer one over the other? From my visits I do see that the south Lakeland area seems nicer but I also did not spend a lot of time in the northern part...

North Lakeland vs. South Lakeland...It really is a matter of preference in my opinion. I personally like being close to I-4 on the north side. The south side is very appealing though and has some great neighborhoods as well as a great open air mall and a good variety of restaurants. North Lakeland does have some pretty rural areas and some of the South Lakelander's don't care for that. But there are also some awesome neighborhoods on the north side. It just depends on your priorities and tastes. The Landings is only about 10 minutes from Lakeland Square Mall and that shopping/restaurant hub right there on 98 and I-4. It's also only about 10 or so minutes from downtown. There is a Publix shopping center about 5 minutes away as well as a few restaurants in that same area. Oh, and I always forget about Victoria Landing, they are really nice and seem to appeal to the many medical professionals since it's close to the hospital and Watson Clinic.
