My taxes almost went DOWN in half. Nope, that doesn't compenstate. I would rather rent in Section 8 housing in a place I want to be.

The problem is, everyone wants it all.... they just don't want to have to pay for it.

They want more police, better funded schools, more parks, more services.... but no income tax, less fees, and less sales tax.

Your taxes are nowhere near what people in the NY/NJ area pay so I wouldn't complain if I was you. JMO

Maybe some people feel that effectively handing over half of their income is more than sufficient to fund all these things and more...

This is so true. I serve on my local (Carrollwood) community planning group. Practially everyone who attends the meetings wants high-speed rail, but they're not willing to pay higher taxes to get it. One minute they're bragging how low their property taxes are and the next minute, they're wanting more services for nothing. Go figure...

To the original link post, when I saw the word "Exodus", I had to smile. As it's defined: "A journey by a large group to escape from a hostile environment." Sorry, but I'm just not seeing it from my viewpoint.

I so agree, TampaKaren- I'm not seeing it either. And to add to that, for everyone leaving or wanting to leave, there are more that come or want in, one only needs to read these forums to see that. Lots of people still love this state, including me.

The state of Florida, through property taxes, gets $4,000.00 of my income each year (which I write off on federal taxes).

They don't ask for any more in income taxes, and they have a sales tax that is equal or less than other places in the country.

Texas has worse property taxes than we do, and also has high insurance rates if you want to live in the coastal areas. Forget about California, where they hit you with up to 10% income tax, and 10% sales tax. Georgia has an income tax rate of 6% over 7,100.00.... and the schools are ranked lower in Georgia than Florida.

Home insurance rates have gone DOWN year after year. If anyone here is paying what they paid just three years ago (or more), pick up the phone and call an independent agent immediately! My mother was quoted $2600/year for renewal this year. I had her call a friend of mine who is an agent, and now my mom pays $850 year for the EXACT same coverage.

Just what we need; more cops.

The schools here are such war zones that I pulled my kids after kindergarten. I'd prefer to have their funding cut even further since the idea of paying taxes for a school system that I don't use and does a lousy job at what it's supposed to do is repugnant to me.
