I am considering a relocation offer to the Tampa/St. Pete area and will be making a trip this week to look at schools. I have a child in first grade now and a 3 year old.

I am most interested in living in St. Pete (Snell Isle, Old NE) but will also look at Tampa (South Tampa, Westchase).

For St. Pete, I know someone with a child at Shorecrest.

In Tampa, I have two friends with children at Saint Mary's.

I would like other recommendations, including Catholic or religious options. Is the Cantebury School worth a look in St. Pete? Is there a good Catholic option in Tampa?

I have been reading the threads on this site and they seem to be focused on public schools, so any help with private schools would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

St Pauls in St Pete is wonderful. I know many children who have gone through this school and on to St Pete Catholic High and are now in pretty good universities. I have friends at Shorecrest though its pretty expensive out of schools here pretty good academics too and goes to 12th G. Canterbury has had good reports from some friends too. I know parents who have used Academy of Holy Names in Tampa and liked it. Depends on which side of Bay you decide to live in. I personally love Old NE,

Shorecrest, St. Paul's (in Clearwater, the one in St. Pete is a parochial school), and Canterbury are all good schools. Admiral Farragut is good if you don't mind a military school. Holy Names (Tampa) has a good reputation (though it eventually becomes all-girls, which may be an issue if you have a boy).

I have friends with a daughter who attends Incarnation Catholic. They've been happy with the school for the past two years. Details & contact info on their website here --> Incarnation Catholic School, Tampa, FL.
