I will agree people do hire the cheapest labor. In CA you see latinos who are not American born doing that type of work. That is a fact, nothing to do with being racist.

I am not saying it is right, I am just telling like it is.

In this economy there are most likely educated people doing unskilled labor jobs, but do you honestly think your colleged educated worker would stick with you for $14 an hour if she could find a job using her degree?

People don't go to college and spend the time and the money so they can clean houses and pools or mow lawns.

You only hire American born workers and your calling people racist?LOL.
Jeepgirl didnt say 'american born'...she said 'American workers'...jeez!! I would also only hire those that are legally able to work in this country. Doh!

OK, First of all let's not compare California to Florida......California's mentality is not being realistic in most cases........and also in California if your verbiage is not "politically correct" meaning you agree with everyone.....you're on the black list! I am part of a mom board with 10,000+ members in LA and we can't even have a conversation on Jeans without someone attacking me for having a different opinion!!!!! Take Miss America for example.....and what they did to her for not agreeing with gay marriage as apparently "she was supposed too" and not allowed to have her own opinion! talk about violating the 1st Amendment!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think is is DISGUSTING that in this day in age illegals are "expected" to mow your damn lawn! These are PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU who happen to not come from million dollar trust fund families! but who also have families of their own who they are trying to provide a better life for, just because our Immigration system sucks and can't process applications in a normal time frame that is hardly their fault. Plus, in this case, let's talk about England! cause I haven't seen any Mexican immigrants in that country mowing those lawns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "hmmmm! those white uneducated British people! they mow their own lawn! HELP THEM?! send it the illegals!"

In California, ladies apparently think that it is OK to wear a business skirt suit WITHOUT silk stockings! how rude and inappropriate for a formal business environment THAT IS!!!!

Look, "the white boys here" are running a business! which proves that with or without some fancy college education they are making a nice decent living for themselves, down the street from my house lives a guy (white boy) who owns a lawn service and who mows Lawns all over Cheval and surrounding areas which allows him to LIVE HERE and also provide for his wife and 3 boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE GUY WORKS A DECENT JOB!

Owning a Lawn business or how you call it in California "Your Gardener" is the same as owing a bakery, photo shop, grocery store, auto shop etc......there is no shame in it and you know what I wish we could afford to hire one and not have my husband do our lawn every weekend!

Get off your high horse, we don't live in slavery anymore! all tho it may seem that way when you make comments like "ohh, the illegals do these jobs here in Cali".....and where you can't even raise your own kids without a NANNY! grow up!

It is very very sad that we associate certain jobs with either African Americans, Illegals, Mexicans etc.......it is SHAMEFUL and doesn't belong in an advanced society such as ours! really, shame on you for making such offensive comments! You know what else........the other day, I was actually HAPPY to see a white boy picking up our garbage! as normally all I see are AA's and I DON'T THINK THAT IS FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS A JOB, it makes you money to buy things and support your family......what's the big deal!????????????

You give it to 'em, Algia! I totally agree! And my dad and uncles all owned their own businesses with only a SIXTH GRADE EDUCATION and did quite well! Two had restaurants, one had a moving business, the mover became a millionaire! This is because they all had work ethics! My own dad had a small lawncare business after he retired from the restaurant business - WHAT IS THE SHAME IN THAT! There is no shame in any kind of honest work. Not everyone who goes to college wants to be stuck inside an office building, and some aren't cut out for college anyway. Where would be be if no one wanted to do the trades? I myself said I would rather scrub toilets than be a secretary - a job I loathed with a passion! I think it would do some of the whiners on this forum some good to try some work they consider "beneath themselves!"

You - need to just stop. You are extremely ignorant.

Read a post correctly before you type yours up. You are aware of what "American Workers" means, right? It is racist that I do not hire illegals? LOL - again, just - stop.

I never said it was right to hire illegals or pay them less wages, I said it was occurring.

It started many years ago in CA, I remember seeing it for the first time being originally from Long Island and seeing Latino men standing around on street corners and being shocked to learn they were to be picked up in trucks for day labor work.

Now we see it all over the country.

Do I think working outside in this sun is way to make a living and be something to strive for, absolutely not. Especially not in Florida.

For one thing skin cancer, for another sitting on a lawnmower all day and cleaning up after someone else should be a motivator to a young person that there is more to life than the service industry.

I have seen people down here who look 20 yrs older than me and our 20 yrs younger, but years of being exposed to the sun has given them faces that look like roadmaps.

Jeepgirl, why are you complaining on another thread about the your electric bills and your car insurance( I agree the electric is high here) and having HS students quit on you for whatever cleaning service you offer.

Then on here you say you only hire HS graduates? If you're paying $14 an hour you must be charging well over $20 an hour, that is kind of steep for a cleaning service in this area.

BTW, our lawncutter had an employee who was 24 yrs old, a HS dropout, and had a kid( of course not married).

Anyway very resentful of all these people with nice homes. The guy he worked for told me he wants a house like these houses.

I said does he understand that dropping out of school and to start having kids isn't the way to go about it. Does he also get that the people who live in nice houses got them by working hard, many for years and years.

It didn't just fall into their laps. There is a subculture of people here who have no education, no motivation, yet they want what everyone else has.

They just don't want to apply themselves. Not everyone is college material, so go learn a trade and be a plumber. But mowing lawns and cleaning pools is a rough job to be doing when your in your 40s and 50s.

So what you're saying is that "illegal mexicans" are exempt from skin cancer because the sun shines differently in California??? they are "allowed" to get it because they are illegals?? OMG the ignorance! also you say that a cleaning service in Florida is not up to par to charge for their work? but in Cali it's OK for a nanny to charge $20 an hour and sit on the phone while the kid plays all by himself! yeah....you make " lots of sense.......
