I was just talking to the St. Pete water dept., and the nice gentleman I spoke with mentioned that the city is considering extending the reclaimed water system to more areas, particularly near the bay. He said one reason is that some private wells are starting to pull up brackish water.

I'm actually having the lawn re-sodded so that was disturbing news! The last thing I want to do is start watering a new lawn with water that has some concentration of salt.

Has anyone heard of this, and more importantly, know of an easy way to get your water tested w/o having to deal with someone who is trying to sell you a water softener? We're about 2500 feet from Tampa Bay, that seems pretty far now that I think about it... but better safe than sorry.

We water our St. Augustine with brackish water all the time with no problems. Plants and shrub are another story.
