Question about Tampa's Population
Tampa's population is roughly 340,000. There are a lot of census designated places (i.e. Greater Carollwood, Greater Northdale, Town-n-Country, Westchase, etc.) that are basically in Tampa. My question is are these places considered part of the 340,000 of Tampa's population? I don't think they are a part of the 340,000 but I am curious if anyone knows the answer.

Perhaps this population you mention is for downtown Tampa only. This is not the population for all these areas. The population for Hillsborough County alone is well over a million. Pinellas county is around 800 thousand , so my answer is no, it does not include any sub's.

Yeah, that is what I thought. I think the 340,000 just includes the city limits of Tampa.

The 340,000 is just for the city limits so that needs to be kept in mind when people are researching statistics.
A good deal of the crime is within the city limits and makes the crime rate look bad but if you take into account all the surrounding areas it is much lower overall.
The same holds true for many other statistics.

Yes, the 340k is just within Tampa city limits, which does not include the areas the OP mentioned (Carrollwood, Northdale, Westchase, Town n Country)

The reality is that Tampa is much bigger than 340,000. Most people who live in the places I mentioned above and other places such as Temple Terrace and Lutz and even Brandon will say they are from Tampa.

you can always go to the city of tampa website to see the city limits...lots of epople from outside the city limits say they are from 'tampa' or 'tampa bay area', because have you ever heard of temple terrace if you were not from these parts? most people know or have heard of tampa.

Not only that, but there are also a lot of people out there who have mailing addresses that say "Tampa, FL" who do not actually live within the city limits but rather are technically in unincorporated Hillsborough county. Almost all of those people consider themselves to be living in Tampa but are not counted in the official population.

That is really strange to me, because yes, I live in Carrollwood, but my mailing address does not say Carrollwood, FL it says Tampa. Same with Westchase, etc. I just consider these neighborhoods, at least that is the way it has worked in other places that I lived, when they said the population was 800,000 they meant the entire city limits, including all the little neighborhoods, until you got to another city or town.
