How much easier would someone with a college degree have about getting a job as opposed to someone who does not have a degree?

That question is impossible to answer, as it would be with any city in my opinion. I have a great steady job with a great income. I live very well. I have not finished my degree. I know someone with a masters degree that is waiting tables.

That is a tough question to answer, especially with the bad economy. That said, it never hurts to have a higher education. I am currently working on my degree, just because i am sure it will open more doors.

It would depend on the degree and the job. Some of the best paying jobs require a license from the state and you must have a degree to even take the license exam. A PhD in the wrong field won't ensure a job of choice.

It all depends upon what you want to do for a living...a friend of mine has a heating/air conditioning/plumbing business and easily makes $300,000 a year....WITHOUT A HIGH SCHOOL DEGREE...perhaps a trade school would better suit your needs...but only you have to be happy with your choice...

Depends on the field but most employers hiring professionals (with the amount of resumes crossing desks these days) will seek the most qualified, educated, and experienced person for the job. For example, in my county school system, there are 250 applicants for each teaching position. I know an IT manager that is getting 50 resumes per week. There is stiff competition here for each position.

Yeah. My stepson and his wife both have PhDs and I know they couldn't get a ratty paying job in the area where I live. You have to go where the demand is for YOUR skills.

With the job market as it is I've found many applicants are overqualified for their jobs. For instance, I met a secretary applicant who was delighted at the prospect of getting a job. To my shock I learned she happens to have an MBA and graduated near the top of her class. Are college degrees necessary? They certainly dont hurt, but the truth is they arent as valuable as they once were.

around here your degree wont get you far, because they don't count for much. most places don't think they're worth much, cause most people around here don't have them.

i think ive been more educated than two of my last bosses, and this was at two of the bigger, better places in the area

A degree will never "get" you a job. What it is used for is a filtration criteria for HR.
A lot of jobs require a degree, merely as a sign that you put forth at least a little effort to better your education. The only place they come in handy are those companies that are run by people fiercely loyal to their college. They will hire an alumni over a more qualified applicant. Luckily these types of companies are only local and are few and far between.

I work with one of the largest Financial Services Firms in the world, which has a large regional office here in Tampa...as someone who does hiring, those that have a college degree take precidence over those that do not, with the same qualifications. And that is for all levels, and positions.
