Hey Everyone -

I am single 28 and currently live in San Diego. I love it here, but my job has offered me an amazing position, but it is in Tampa, FL. I really like how SD is so safe with great night life and cute neighborhoods. Any suggestions on how I may like Tampa...I have heard it is very insafe. Cost of living isn't an issue..where would you guys recommend to live that is safe, with cute shops and nightlife?

Default search for tampaguy03's posts

SD is an amazing place. Cant imagine many places better than that. But for some general advice on nice places to consider search this forum for tampaguy03's posts. Some of his posts have a lot of good information on places.

If you love San Diego and are getting along well there, I would stay put. Tampa is NO WHERE NEAR anything as cool as San Diego - you will be greatly disappointed. I am a Tampa native - there are some good points to Tampa, but again - will not hold a candle to San Diego.

First off, I've never been to San Diego, but I have relatives there. Whenever they visit Tampa, they complain about the hot and muggy weather especially during the summer months. This might be one thing you need to keep in mind. As far as a night life scene and "cute" neighborhoods, the closest thing that I can think of is the Hyde Park (South Tampa) area.

Hyde Park has a pretty lively night life. You'll have a couple options in terms of night clubs and bars: Hyde Park Cafe, The Rack, Whiskey Park, MacDinton's, etc. They also have some nice little boutique shops, but in my opinion, they're nothing that makes you want to come back to every week.

However, I must say that downtown Tampa is slowly changing its face. A few years back it used to be a ghost town at night. Right now, they are building condos and the Channelside entertainment district has been improving a lot. Pretty much, if you move to Tampa, you have a few options of night spots: Channelside, Hyde Park, International Plaza, and for the adventurous and brave: Ybor.

I have lived in San Diego, and have visited Tampa several times. I don't dislike Tampa, but in all honesty its hard to tell someone you don't know they will like or dislike a place. I don't know you, but since I lived in San Diego, I can say this, most likely you will be bored in Tampa. The difference is just too dramatic and really it should not be as such. Tampa just isn't a lively place as such, perhaps that is how it is meant to be, I don't know. What you really need to do is to visit it, and spend some time there. I don't think there is any other way. Do not just take the job transfer and pack up and go, that would be a serious mistake. I hesitated writing this, because I don't want to cause someone to place too much on these forums when making decisions. I just think it would be a very hard adjustment for a 28 year old that likes San Diego,

I agree.

For me...
My Favorite SD views:
The Beach in front of The "Del" watching the Jets land @ North Island NAS.

2xx floor of the Marriott Marina, Bay side View from balcony...

SD is astounding, Tampa is not!!

Cutsey Places with nice neighborhoods and nightlife you will want to be in South Tampa or Northeast St. Petersburg. Check out Hyde Park, SOHO, Bayshore Beautiful, Davis Islands, Harbour Island, Channelside, Ballast Point - Seminole Heights and Tampa Heights are on a resurgance.

Davis Island Blvd, South Howard Ave from Kennedy Blvd to Bayshore Blvd; Swann Avenue through Hyde Park; Bay to Bay Blvd from Himes Ave to Bayshore Blvd, MacDill Ave from Bay to Bay Blvd to Gandy Blvd, Westshore Blvd from Bay to Bay to Gandy Blvd have some great neighborhood restaurants and nightlife.

You hit the Nail right on the Head...it is what you make of it...a buddy of mine moved back from San Diego after spending three years there, but couldnt afford to purchase and be close to anything, too much congestion(more than Tampa), and too dry for his tastes...so it is what you make of it.
