i am a florida native that has been living in seattle off and on for the past 7 years. it's a wonderful city...but i miss the sun and REAL beaches...not to mention southern food...my fiance and i want to move to clearwater or st. pete next year. the west coast of florida has always been my favorite for beaches....however, my main concern is the crime. i grew up in downtown jacksonville fl,..and i feel pretty sure it cant be worse than that, but my fiance is from seattle...where violent crime isnt much of an issue...in fact, it's big news here if someone so much as gets a broken nose from fighting on the bus. she lived with me in st. augustine for 2 years and loved it...so i know she can handle the climate and our psychotic wildlife just fine, i just want to be sure she will be relatively safe....as safe as anyone can be in a city, anyway. any pointers about where in those two places a young couple can enjoy the day without my trigger finger itching? and which areas to avoid altogether? and which areas are good for apartment living? the last thing i need is to end up renting an apartment in some area that seems friendly during the day, but turns into south central LA as soon as the sun goes down...

Safety Harbor, Palm Harbor, Oldsmar, Dunedin, Northeast St. Pete, The Beaches-Pass A Grille, Tierra Verde, Redington, Indian Rocks, etc.

These are areas I feel comfortable in.
