My husband and I are moving to Carrollwood and just as the packers showed up at our house in El Paso our beloved West Highland Terrier Max became ill. We have since found out that he may have canine prostate cancer. We are waiting for our new house to close and I am currently staying with family before arriving in Tampa next week. I need a good veternarian to take Max to - we may not have a lot of time to get his treatments going.

Your help is very appreciated.

There is FVS on Busch Blvd (near Twin Lakes Blvd IIRC) that is the top animal cancer place you can go to. They are very expensive but family members are worth it.

Florida Veterinarians Services Florida Veterinary Specialists - Tampa - Florida

I will keep a good thought for your Dog and your family during this rough period.

Good Luck
Dennis P.

I hope Max will be better soon. Following are two suggestions. Call them and ask questions to determine the best one for your little guy. Dr. Brooks has treated our lab mix for 14 years. I only know of the other place through word of mouth.

Dr. Henry Brooks
Citrus Park Animal Hospital

I've taken my cats here since we moved to Tampa, and I have never been disappointed in their service or care.

I take my dog and cat to the FVS, just for the fact they provide 24 hour emergency care as well. I had to put down my 6 foot Iguana there in July 08. They are a tad more in cost, but after I went to North Bay Bird and Animal Hospital off Hillsborough (do not recommend, Moderator cut: .. ) it's worth it.

Thank you to all who replied, I am so very grateful. I am trying to get my local vet to refer me to FVS and to acquire an appointment for next week. I will make a trip to visit Dr. Brooks as well.

Fingers are crossed!

Personally, we are not fans of FVS. We plan on finding another veterinary emergency hospital if we ever need one again.
I would see if Dr. Brooks or whomever you go to recommends any others in the Carrollwood area.

FVS has residents working there, just like many other hospitals. Last time we took our English Bulldog there, the resident who was assigned our case was very lacking in medical knowledge. My husband, a physician, was disgusted, and had to teach her what she was doing, because she really did not know.
The other thing we do not like about them, when you admit your animal, they show you 2 quotes, one is what they feel is absolutely necessary, the other, higher one, is what they feel might be better? Why 2? Shouldn't it be 1 and the same. Personally, we do not trust them.

Thank you for the help and encouragement. We used this facility about 3 years for our girl Gracie. A 13 yr. old Maltese. A joy and a blessing for us. She was diagnosed with Cushings Disease and the wonderful people here gave us a few more months with her,but unfortunately, her disease was not caught on time by our vet. They are by far the moist knowledgeable, kind and generous group of people I will probably ever meet. Gracie was treated at the Carrolwood location!
