Default Tarpon Springs - Any Bad???

We are looking at Tarpon Springs and everything seems pretty nice. Can anyone tell me if it's family friendly? What about East Lake HS? It sounds great - is it? Any info. would be appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Traffic stinks. It's in suburbia Tampa/St Pete. Not much you can do about that, but it's a pretty area... East Lake High School is supposedly very good (going based on limited reputation knowledge of a couple people in the school system)...

There is a lot of construction right in the heart of Tarpon Springs right now, but truthfully we are finding traffic in the whole area to be an annoyance rather than a huge problem-so I guess it depends on your perspective and tolerance. What we find is that even if there is a lot of traffic-it keeps moving, unless there is an accident.
The exception is the causeway to Clearwater Beach during high season special events. It's a nightmare, come early, stay late or forget it.
There are some lovely areas in Tarpon Springs, also other nearby communities you can check out.
I have no one in school, but what I hear is Palm Harbor University is considered the best HS then Countryside, Tarpon Springs and Eastlake about equal. Safety Harbor has the best intermediate school.-this is strictly a few parents opinions that I've met.
For now at least-where you live doesn't determine which school you go to-school choice, and luck does-but I think that is supposed to change, not sure when.

Thank you for the info.! It is appreciated! How far is the downtown Tarpon area from the residential? What about from residential areas to the beach? Are there sidewalks to ride your bike to the beach from the residential areas or do you have to use the road? Thanks in advance!!

Downtown can be 2 blocks, 2 miles, 5 miles from residential areas, depending if you choose to live closer to the gulf or further inland. there are 2 small Beach areas, I am only familiar with Howard park. if you live close it is definitely easy to bike to, though not all sidewalks. If you are a serious biker, you could ride even from a distance. The Pinellas Trail makes Bike riding a popular method of recreational transportation here, it runs along Alt 19, so if you live west of alt 19, I think you can avoid any major roads. However, east of Alt 19, 19, and south of Klosterman you can't avoid them.

Dear betsy5370;
What would make you move to Tarpon Springs?
I find it the most Horrid beach town I have ever witnessed...
I guess to each their own...

We visit Tarpon Springs a lot and we love it. It is NOT a beach town. I love the funky historic sponge docks district. And the historic small downtown is beautiful and we love all the antique shops. There is also a really nice Gulf front park there which I haven't visited, but I know it's nice. I don't see ANYTHING bad about Tarpon Springs at all, but then I haven't lived there.
