It would be interesting to hear from Tampa (and surrounding area) residents what one positive and one negative element are with respect to living there.

There is one twist to the survey, please do not use "The Beaches or Winter Weather" as your positive and "The Heat or Thunderstorms" as your negative. They have all been beaten to death on here.

Thank you.

Positive: the people. I know a wondrously (economically, politically, religiously, ethnically, every other way I can think of) diverse group, and there are some amazing human beings here.

Negative: the transient nature of the place. It's hard for people to fully invest in a place they perceive as somewhere they-- and 80% of their neighbors, coworkers, and friends-- are just passing through. That, I think, is the cause of many of the other negatives.

+ : entertainment

-: the people (road raging, transient, selfish, arrogant - mainly when driving).

+ climate, especially from Oct-April (oh, not allowed). Okay, the professional sports (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, PGA) in the area.

- crime (I don't really feel safe here), seems to be a lot of crime in the TB area, probably due to the transient nature of the population (as mentioned before)/

And I forgot to mention on the negatives... too large of a number of transplants (just like the rest of FL) and crime.

And for the positive side I forgot about my Bucs, although they stink at the moment.

Cool thread.

Positive: Nice people overall. As long as you're not driving, as already mentioned.

Negative: Another one that has been "beaten to death" but VERY important.

EDUCATION!

Florida schools rank No. 10, higher than national average - St. Petersburg Times

Florida ranks No. 10 among states in education quality, according to the latest annual report card from the highly regarded Education Week newspaper.

.........Education Week's conclusion comes despite the fact that Florida has one of the worst graduation rates in the country and among the lowest rates of per-pupil funding. It also clangs off a perception, ingrained in the collective psyche of Floridians , that their schools are lame.
