As a native New Yorker--I'm heading down to Tampa on holiday this week to hopefully look at real estate. I'm dreaming of of life with palm trees and a 43% lower cost of living (not to mention--less crime). I was hoping that some members could suggest areas. After reading some of the posts I read about section 8 housing (utto we have problems here with that!!)- and crime areas so I was hoping to get some ideas/and peace of mind. It's been my obsession to live there--are there any New Yorkers who successfully make the living adjustment? I'm thinking of buying a new house--It's just the two of us (I've seen them for $150,000). It's like a no brainer when they are running for $800,000 in my neighborhood. Thanks so much. P.S. It's going to snow again tomorrow!!

New homes in your price range are going to be at least 25 miles north and south from the city of Tampa. Personally, I prefer the south due to the flux in temperatures.

You just have to be careful of all the bad and spotty areas. Are you sure you want to buy here? As we have a lot of vacant houses even in some of the good areas, perhaps you might consider being a squatter.
