I am applying for an administrative job in the Polk County School District. I'm married, and my wife is expecting, so we are looking for a family friendly place that has great things for families to do.
I certainly don't plan on moving without a job, although with the salary mentioned, my wife, a SpEd teacher, could choose to stay at home if she wished (I'm leaving the decision to her). Currently, I live in NJ, and am forced to rent ($1200/2 BR) because the taxes on a decent 3 BR townhouse can run $4-5k easily, and I know people that pay $10k for a $400-500k house in nicer areas.
Having read some of the FL threads, I feel like I need to mention that I don't need to hear from FL haters!
I do want an honest assessment, good and bad, of the area, the schools, and of life in Polk County. I would also like to know what I should expect to rent or purchase a 3BR house (and yes, I plan to rent until I know whether I want to stay).

I do want an honest assessment, good and bad, of the area, the schools, and of life in Polk County. I would also like to know what I should expect to rent or purchase a 3BR house (and yes, I plan to rent until I know whether I want to stay).
