Default Hernando County Tax Meeting

I get these e-mails from a Hernando County Resident who is trying to lower our taxes. I don't know why I get them, I must have signed up somewhere....anyhow....there is some type of tax meeting coming up...read below.

LOWER HERNANDO COUNTY TAXES WOULD LIKE YOU TO ATTEND IN PROTEST OF EXCESSIVE TAXATION THE HERNANDO COUNTY TEA PARTY ON TUESDAY JUNE 5TH AT THE REGULAR HERNANDO COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING AT TEN O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING.

The Hernando County Commission has invited our State Representatives
to the Board of County Commission meeting on June 5th, 2007 so that
they may encourage them not to give us a property tax reform package.

By now you have seen in the media that our county and the surrounding
counties and cities are in fact sharing the same “scare tactics” as
expressed in the “Communications Toolkit” put out by The Florida
Association of Counties that I had emailed you in a previous
communication.

Our sheriff, despite the public outcry from his constituents for tax
relief, refuses to cut his budget and is in fact requesting an
increase.

Our County Commissioner representing district 5 claims there has not
been a property tax increase since 1996!

Our County Commissioner representing district 3 agrees that we all
need relief. She believes that Save our Homes is very unfair and was
put into effect without enough thought put into it. She hopes that
whatever plan is picked by the state that it is a solution, not
another problem.

Our County Commissioner representing district 4 thinks that the county
will be just fine with tax cuts and believes it high time that the
county does a better job prioritizing needs.

My point by the above is that we have a battle on our hands, the
players are divided and unfortunately the taxpayer is the loser in the
dispute. WE MUST MAKE OUR WISHES KNOWN AND WE MUST DO IT NOW!

For you information I am attaching to this email an agreement between
the Florida Senate and House that generalizes the approach of the
upcoming special session set up for property tax reform. Please
realize that anything or nothing could happen during this session and
we must be vigilant with our demands.

Please send this to everyone on your email list and alert your media
contacts.

Please attend the meeting on June 5th at the Board of Hernando County
Commission Chambers, 20 North Main St, Brooksville at 10:00 am.
Please encourage all your friends and neighbors to attend, as we need
real property tax reform and not just a token that they will announce
later as “Problem Solved”.

Bring your teabags and signs!

Also, Please call at 352-754-4000 and fax at 352-754-4477 the county
commissioners and ask them to begin working for us and to be more
thoughtful with our tax dollars. Please email the county
commissioners too -Jeff Stabins (jstabins@co.hernando.fl.us),
Christopher Kingsley (ckingsley@co.hernando.fl.us), David Russell
(drussell@co.hernando.fl.us), Diane Rowden (drowden@co.hernando.fl.us)
and Rose Rocco (rrocco@co.hernando.fl.us).

Please feel free to contact me at Linda Hayward 352-797-9653 or email
me at lhayward@tampabay.rr.com for any reason.

Let’s get government working for us!

Default Linda Hayward

There was a opinion in yesterdays St. Pete Times, about Linda Hayward
and her drive to lower taxes in Hernando Cty............I wonder what her agenda is? Maybe she'll try running for office in 2008 and if she gets taxes
lowered, she'll be a hero and everyone will vote for her. I don't trust her
I wouldn't sign her petitions.

Not only is Hernando Cty in deep trouble, so are the other counties, they are going to keep fooling with the tax rates, HOI until everyone is totally screwed.

My taxes are not high, I don't complain about them, $1,200 is not alot of money in todays cost of living. Most of my neighbors are paying well under
$1,500 in taxes, my HOI was rolled back to 2006 rates, I'm happy.

The state of Fl is changing faster than I can type, this Hayward lady has only been here a short while and already she's stirring the pot, getting everyone in a uproar, I hope this tax thing doesn't backfire on her and her cohorts.

I didnt realize she was a political person. I just though she was a resident attending meetings and trying to get the taxes lowered. I dont pay attention to that stuff too much. My taxes are very high over 6k, close to 7k. Too much to live in this county.... thats for sure.

SPRING HILL IS FINE is on a distinguished road
The taxes are so much more here than NC...My home in NC is much bigger, costs the same and the taxes are over 50% less...Tax value of home in Wake Forest NC right outside of Raleigh is 197,000. Taxes 1300 year...home tax value in brooksville fl 178,000- which needs to come down cause the market has absolutely crashed in the area; however the taxes as are 3,000 month..This needs to be evaluated for sure if the county wants to keep attracting new residents and new business

One thing to take into account is the state income tax.

Someone making $40,000 a year will pay almost $2800 a year in state income tax in NC compared to $0 in Florida.
This is the one thing many people fail to take into account when comparing property tax rates in different areas.
