Hi

Im moving to Tampa to work on MacDill.
I will be staying in Riverview.
Most of the dirving directions I have seen involve driving on tollroads.
Is there other ways around the tolls?
thanks

Well sure, you can take 301 to SR60 (Adamo, which becomes Kennedy), to MacDill Ave and take that to the base. But after a few times of doing that you'll understand why everyone tells you to take the Crosstown. It may cost you a few bucks but it's worth it in saved aggravation.

You could take I-4 to 275 south and take the Dale Mabry exit. But you might find that the time saved and road-rage avoided are well worth the $3 or whatever it is these days.

I would avoid living in Riverview, personally.

I can't see bypassing the Selmon Expressway. If you're concerned about costs, maybe get off the expressway downtown and catch scenic Bayshore onto base through the sidegate/backgate.

im not sure where you live in Riverview, but you could take 301 to Causeway Blvd, which turns into
22nd Ave, to 60, then Channelside Drive to Brorein Street which will take you to Bayshore Blvd to the gate. Prob add another 20-25 mins to your drive.

I lived in Brandon for a year. the crosstown took 15 minutes, 60 took 45 minutes, 275 to dale mabry took an hour.

I dont know what your time is worth to you, but mine is worth more then that 3 bucks each way that it costs with a sunpass.

An upside to living in riverview... you save money, but you lose convenience. You have to buy some of that convenience back for a small cost. I found myself spending about 120-150 a month in tolls between traveling to and from macdill and going downtown/south tampa for entertainment. I eventually moved to westshore.

If you don't want to drive, there's an express bus that goes from Riverview to the base. It doesn't have any stops between the two, except maybe one downtown.
