I couldn't agree more. I love long distance road trips, they're a blast. The same message you just posted is one of the reasons why I love Disney Pixar's Cars, the convey the same message. Driving from East Coast to West coast is for wussies. This is the drive I am making this summer to get to Tampa. How about one side of the continent to the other baby?!

Cars is one of the best animated films ever made, IMHO. The producers did a lot of background research. For example, did you know that the Cozy Cone is modeled after a small chain of Wigwam motels from the Route 66 days? (3 are still remaining and in operation, I believe.)
That will be an awesome road trip! Don't you just love it when you find some off the wall place and it turns out great? I've found some great restaurants this way- everything from a BBQ joint in Alabama to excellent prime rib at some casino/restaurant in the middle of desert nowhere outside of Vegas.
Life is too short to eat at a Chilis or Applebees all the time! (I won't give up Carabbas though.)
P.S., when you get here you'll find that "old florida" isn't completely lost. Attractions like Sunken Gardens and live mermaid shows at Weekie Wachie springs are still around too.

Every summer of my childhood just about was spent traveling from OKLA to CA. It was our 'family vacation' to go see the Grandparents. We never hurried or rushed through the drive. My parents were adventurous and liked to see things. We grew up stopping at every off the wall, off the beaten path, out of their mind tourist trap shop, attraction or national monument. My sisters and I had always wanted to stay at that Wigwam motel! And to this day I can't drive long distance without craving a pecan log roll! (Stuckys).

I just did VA to OK in February straight through. Nearly killed me doing it!

Yep, straight through taking turns. We figure Redbull and NoDoz will keep us going. Hahah. Nah, I have broken the route up into 15 - 16 hour legs of driving. Might be able to go longer. When we were kids and drove out of Alaska we drove for 36 hours straight. It would be pretty awesome to make it from Anchorage to Edmonton straight through though.
