I'm interested in sites that can help me to find places that are hiring. I'm going to be staying with a friend for a couple of weeks here.

I will most likely spend quite a few days job hunting in Orlando because Orlando seems to have a better economy but since I will be in the area I will probably at least hit up a few restaurants.

The word on the forum is that it's very hard to get a job no matter what field mainly because of competition for each job opening.

Last time I found a job in 3 weeks and only tried really hard for 1 week. I'm hoping I can duplicate this.

What do you guys think? Is this a good time to be looking in Tampa?

Any suggestions on sites that may help would be terrific. Thanks.

Hi, I am moving to Tampa in the next year or so and have asked this question here as well. I got no responses so have been trying to dig for answers myself. I was shocked to see craigslist has real jobs on it. I would recommend starting there, beware weird postings as they may be scams. Proceed with caution but I think there are some decent jobs there from what I can see. Looks like some of them pay pretty bad, but at least its something... Looked like call centers and restaurants were more commonly listed there?? ALso maybe if you see a cool place, look them up online and apply directly... I will soon be in the same boat so good luck!!

I don;t think you guys are getting many replies to job inquiries in Tampa because it has been a topic that has been discussed many times in a rather short period. You can use the search function to fine these threads. I do believe there was a thread not long ago that will give you a good idea on the job market in Tampa. I think the thread had the word unemployment in it. Basically what I have heard is that competition for jobs is fierce. Many say expect to take awhile to get a job, if you can get one at all. Few say you can land a job in a short amount of time, depends on your industry. Almost all agree you cannot land an interview unless you have a Tampa addres and phone on your resume. Several say to stay away from recruiting agencies as they are not helpful. Other say that these recruiting agencies are very helpful. I guess what I am really trying to say is, unemployment is up. Finding a job may take awhile and you won;t find one unless you are actually in the city.

Thankfully my employer is allowing me to transfer so I am all set in this department. WOO WHOO!

Have you thought about the airlines? If you go to the Tampa area Airport's website, there are several airlines that are hiring for the ticket counter/gate...
There are also links from the Pinellas Co. homepage.

Just a thought!!

I have paid my dues in a call center for over 8 years...I currently work in the insurance field and am finding myself performing the same duties, but on a home-based basis...it's tough to get used to, but once you find your rhythm, it's easy to deal with on a daily basis.

Good luck on your search!! Even though it has been touted as a "scammy" place, Craigslist and the local newspapers can be a wealth of info when searching for a job. You just have to be willing to wade through "crap" to get to the good stuff. There are also several other job postings on the internet...let Google be your friend.

Feel free to private message me if you need other suggestions or direction.
