Per Tampa's economy should recover faster than much of the state, UCF predicts - St. Petersburg Times

"Tampa Bay's battered economy has ended its free fall and is slowly getting better, with wages expected to grow near the fastest pace in the state over the next three years..."

"Employment rolls will grow...annually, tied for second highest in the state..."

"The unemployment rate, now at 13.1 percent in the region, will gradually recede in tandem with the rest of the state and reach 8 percent by the end of 2013."

based upon a study by http://www.bus.ucf.edu/hitec/index.shtm which also says that:

"Population growth will average 0.9%...Tampa is forecasted to have the second highest Gross Metro Product (I assume that is statewide).

Their latest quarterly outlook http://issuu.com/ucfbusiness/docs/flforecast_dec09 (quarter ending Dec 2009) shows:

I'll believe it when I see it. I hope this article is correct, but the reality is no one really knows what will happen in the future. I have seen articles say we have not come anywhere near hitting bottom yet. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Thanks Crash,

It's always nice to hear something positive about the area. I enjoyed looking at the pictures that were available as well.

I sure hope the job market gets better by the time I graduate in '11. Hopefully, these trends will hold, but we'll see.

You're welcome Kash. Some dives can be so deeply disorienting that it is hard to tell which way is up, so it helps to follow back to the surface what few bubbles can be found.

No guarantees Haai, just some hope. I'll settle for 2012 as that's about how long it will take me to crank up my third career. It's too bad I quit my last one before learning that I don't care to be retired. I could have been collecting unemployment this whole time.

Optimism is good with a healthy dose of realism tossed in. Time will tell. All things can be shown on paper but making them happen in the real world of variables is the final tale.
