I would say "The Villages"..it is beautiful and a lot to do for an active 55+ person...

You never gave us your preferences for housing & recreation, but you can check out Southshore Falls in Apollo Beach, Groves in Land O Lakes, Tampa Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Heritage Springs in Trinity (personal favorite), Timber Greens in New Port Richey, and Heritage Pines in Hudson. There are many many many more... it just depends on your personal preferences and price range. The largest active adult communities in the area are Sun City, On Top of The World, and Villages.

I thought about Trinity area - seems like a nice place. The Villages seems to be too far from Tampa, the beaches, etc, for me - 60 miles or more? Away from a lot of what Tampa has to offer -

I like the Trinity area only because it's closer to the beach. I was outbid on a villa in Heritage Springs in 2005 (thank goodness). The CDD makes this area a little more pricey than some of the others.

We are building in Del Webb's Southshore Falls. We fell in love with it while visiting Valencia Lakes. Cheaper and very active with great clubhouse, pools and short ditance to golf course. Check it out. About 5 miles due west of Valencia Lakes.

my parents have a place in Kings Point. the HOA fees are over $400/month which is high for what you get. The golf is an additional $3,000/yr for one person, plus a one time downpayment to join. There is a wide variety of housing from very scrubby, old attached dwellings near the front entrance to very modern new homes in the back. In looking around my parents have noticed that all prices have dropped dramatically, all units have and continue to depreciate.

Take a look at Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club in San Antonio, The Groves in Land O'Lakes abd Heritage Springs in Trinity. I have been looking at area for 55+ for over a year now.
