It was built in the 50's, I believe, but the kitchen is totally remodeled. I think they did it within the past few years.

I'll go read that link. Thanks!

There is a good chance there is no chinese drywall in there then I don't think it was sold in places like home depot, more purchased in huge quantities for construction jobs.

I found this article that might be helpful. At the end of the article, it makes a suggestion for someone who is renting a home.

Should You Test the Air in Your Home for Mold? | CMHC (http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/co/maho/yohoyohe/momo/momo_006.cfm - broken link)

Hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe with the warmer weather, you might start feeling better.

we also moved here a year ago, and i can say that my family has had rough year in terms of colds and bugs. our toddler has had 6 ilnesses in the last 4 months, and my wife and i have had more bouts with colds that we've had since we were kids (about 6 each this year versus 1-per-year normally).

i really think that it's been a bad year in general, around the country. and while mold and allergies certainly don't help, it is not hard to tell the difference between a comunicable illness and allergies.

lots of colds, rsv, norovirus, rotavirus, influenza, and the like were going around in the tampa area over last 9 month or so. plus, if you have young kids, they are the ideal vehicle for spreading illness.

That is certainly true about young kids. I'm sure they've brought every single think home from school with them!

We'll see how we are in a month or so. Then I'll decide if we need to check for mold or not.

Mold in the walls of a new building some years back made a judge so ill he became disabled. It is serious. Millions spent on fixing the new court house building.

Aside from mold, etc, I have heard from people in different areas of the US that this has been a "sick" Spring. Seasonal allergies have been particularly bad in the Midwest. People get fluid in their ears and sinuses, which in turn can become a Petri dish for brewing nasties.

A friend just got over a bout of pneumonia which got started (they think) from allergies. But she also flies around the country 60% of the time, so who knows? I was sick for 3 weeks with flu, then bronchitis, then a stomach virus.

Anyway, you are not alone.

No, most of the time it doesn't. You can "kind of" smell it in closed spaces like a garage, but I don't know how to describe the smell, but it's not rotten eggs, more like fresh paint.

Having said that, I doubt it's the Chinese drywall, as the chinese drywall typically causes allergy symptons, not flue like. I was in Tampa recently and also got really sick with bronchitis and I'm from Miami so it's not like I'm not used to tropical weather. I think they are just getting all kinds of viruses and bacterias from all the country. I'm still sick as I type.

Yes, this has been a really bad winter/spring all around the country. Here in SE Virginia (coastal area) I have been suffering like crazy. Just get over one thing and something else hits. Have been hearing from friends all around the country that the same thing has been happening to them. I'll be glad when this sicky trend is over with!

I'm feeling better the last couple days, and the kids are as well, so I'm crossing my fingers that it's just due to a bad cold/flu season. Scary about that judge, though!

Hope everyone feels better!
