I have been living here in Tampa for a little over a year. I am originally from NC and all of my family and friends are back there. Unfortunately I have not met anyone ("friends") that I can just hang with. I am not into the bar or club scene except for every blue moon when I feel like dancing. I just want to meet people who like to have get togethers, play some cards, have a barbecue, play sports, etc., some real people who like to do real things. I like salsa dancing and playing pool, both of which are not that fun to do by yourself and not that safe to venture out by myself. I love sports (indoor court volleyball) but unable to play at the moment due to rehabing my knee. I work in a very small office with older people so the opportunity for me to meet anyone from work or social functions is very small. I am single mom of two daughters and I don't really have the time or babysitting network to be going to adult only functions or events to meet people. Please help. I am about to go insane down here and really starting to hate it here because I don't have that adult, friend, social connection.

Good luck Timepiece. I'm moving back to Tampa after 20+ yrs away, and have a similar concern. Sometimes, even in a larger city where there are a lot of people, it's hard to find a connection with people who share your same interests.

I just recently moved away from tampa and found it so hard to make friends there cause it is such transient state . Some people move there for a while and then they move away and there goes your friendship I dont have friends here either yet but I hope too . I used to go dancing too and would meet people but could not make friends really . aquaintances yes but not friends . tampa is really backward for dancing clubs and stuff like that . I wish you luck because I know how hard it is . god bless dear .

Both my Mom and Dad have met most of their friends by going to the YMCA/YWCA and doing swimming and exercise programs although most of their programs end up with every one sitting around a table drinking coffee wondering where the group is going for lunch..

The YMCA is WONDERFUL place to make friends - I highly recommend it!
