Hopefully you found a few threads - probably would give you a variety of answers about Brandon.

I don't find Brandon an attractive place to live. I guess you can find some subdivision away from the main strip of fast food joints, car repair shops, etc - but my image of Brandon is SR 60 where you have a lot of traffic, and businesses. And I guess someone could tell you that Brandon has the same crime as anywhere else. Unfortuately there was some gruesome news coming out of Brandon yesterday.

I find Brandon a good place to go only if I need something from the mall, Borders/Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, or to see a movie. I don't think I'd like to live right there. It is relatively close to Tampa if you work downtown.

From 5:30 AM to 11PM on RT 60, from my experience, I'd guess 95% of the cars in America. Seriously I spent several years there one week last fall, and at that hour in the morning the amount of traffic was incredible.
There are some nice areas in Brandon, but I saw massive suburban sprawl and would never want to live there.YMMV.

Thanks Bucfan & Cariad! Well, Brandon is out of the list right now since I checked mapquest and it's too far fr Orlando where DH will be working. I might eb able to get a job transfer in Tampa so I thought that would be our best middle pt. Oh well. Now, I'm looking at Winter Haven w/c is an hr fr Tampa and an hr fr Orlando as well. Any insights on Winter haven? High schools? neighborhoods? Any suggestions as to where else we can live in b/w Orlando & Tampa? Thanks so much!

Wait, one of you will work in Tampa and the other in Orlando? That sounds pretty intense. I guess Winter Haven would be sorta centrally-located, but that's still going to be one long drive.

Ferret111, it does sound intense, huh? I guess one has to find another work in Orlando, that would probably moi! We're in NoVa now and we both work for the federal gov't and I was hoping I can get a job transfer but it will be in Tampa! Maybe I have to start looking for work in the Orlando area! I wish I don't have to work but we will more than likely have our house in NoVa rented out (since we can't sell it) and it would be nice to have that extra income just in case,,,,

On paper, Winter Haven is more or less in the middle, but you have to consider that Orlando and Tampa are big cities, so the offices could be anywhere. Factor in the time just to get to town, then add in all of the extras, I just don't think it would be worth it. If you could find a job in Orlando, that'd be great.

I wonder if the other posters on here know anybody who's tried to pull this off.

I know a person who commutes from Orlando to Tampa in my office down there. She said its around 2 hours. Have you checked into Lakeland? It's much more in the middle of the two than Brandon is.
